Recycling Reminders

ALAMOSA—The City of Alamosa’s Rickey Recycling Center continues to be fully operational.

According to the City’s Public Works Department, the items that center will accept include newspaper, white office paper, shredded white paper, magazines, cardboard, chipboard, PETE #1 plastic, HDPE#2 colored and natural plastic, steel and aluminum cans, and all colors of glass.

Some of the items that the center cannot accept include electronics, egg cartons, plastic bags, oil containers, windowpanes, foil baking pans, lumber, phonebooks, paperback books, light bulbs, aerosol cans, aluminum foil, trash, Styrofoam, antifreeze containers and paint cans. Reasons for the refusal of these items include the lack of a consistent or regional market, employee and public safety, material handling difficulties, additional State-mandated permitting.

The city asks consumers for their help in maintaining the free service by not contaminating the recycling stream.

For more information or questions, contact the Alamosa Public Works Department at 589-6631 or visit the Alamosa City Hall at 300 Hunt Ave. The center’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Sundays and holidays.
