Regional qualifier held at Cattails in Alamosa
ALAMOSA — Alamosa got the chance to host their regional qualifier on Thursday. The event saw 14 schools including three valley schools – Alamosa, Del Norte and Monte Vista.
The 3A Golf Regional qualifier will send two full teams of four and 13 individual golfers. The No. 1 and 2 spots were claimed by Vail Mountain and Lutheran who figure to take the team places. Gatekeeper, Lutheran, held a teamwide 15 stroke advantage over the next closest competitor Pagosa Springs, who holds third place. Monte Vista leads the valley with a team total 259 overall score to take fourth place, Alamosa sits in fourth place with an overall score of 274 and Del Norte is placed No. 10 with a 301 overall score.
For the Pirates Colton Mellott posted the top score from day one tying for 8th place with a 82 overall. Behind him was Kaden Mellott who finished tied for 14 place with an 86 overall. Pirates Liam Ellithorpe and Ryker Anderson finished 24th and tied for 36 respectively, rounding out the team. Alamosa’s top placer was Kyler Liddell who finished tied for 18th place scoring an 88 on day one. Second on the team was Garrett Smith with a tie for 21st place with an overall 89. Alamosa’s final two golfers were Evan Sowards who finished in 28th place and Seth Quintana who came away with a tie for 50th place.
For the Tigers, it was Ben Parra in the lead position tying for 14th place hitting 86 on his time on the course. TJ Sanchez finished in a tie for 36th place with an overall score of 105. Aidan Medina and Reece Velasquez brought up the rear for Del Norte finishing in 42nd and 54th places respectively.
The San Luis Valley could send up to 5 golfers from all three schools individually to the State Tournament at Spring Valley in Elizabeth on October 4 and 5.
Unofficially Monte Vista’s Colton Mellot and Kaden Mellot, Alamosa’s Colton Liddell and Garret Smith as well as Ben Parra from Del Norte are all within the top 13 places not attached to Lutheran and Vail Mountain.
