ALAMOSA – Experience the satisfaction of accomplishing a positive fitness goal and register for the Fourth Annual Sprint Triathlon, a Splashland Hot Springs Swimming Pool Benefit. The sprint triathlon will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, and will include a 3.3 mile run, a 10 mile bike ride and a 400 yard swim. Registration cost, before October 1, is $55 for individual and $100 for a team relay. Awards include gold, silver, and bronze in 12 age groups.

This year the Splashland Benefit Triathlon is part of the Southwestern Colorado Triathlon Series. “We are attempting to get as many college teams and individuals to participate from Adams State University, Colorado Mesa State University, Fort Lewis College, Colorado Western State University and surrounding universities and colleges,” said Michael Bush, Splashland manager.

The benefit race will raise funds to purchase additional Splashland Hot Springs Swimming Pool ADA equipment. Proceeds from past benefit triathlons have purchased handicap parking signs, an ADA PAL Pool Lift, which lowers and raises a person into and out of the pool, non-slip flooring in shower stalls, and wheelchair changing benches.

“We hope to purchase two all-plastic wheelchairs for showers in the locker rooms this year,” Bush added. “This equipment benefits all our patrons both veterans and civilians alike, including those with physical limitations and/or paralysis, arthritis, muscle/nerve, joint/medical conditions, and those seeking water rehab after surgery. It helps to speed up recovery or stabilize and increase mobility, strength, motor skills and overall health. Water workouts are the healing secret to good health. Our mission is to provide the necessary equipment and aquatic facility that accommodates everyone’s needs for a better life.”
