Rep. Valdez seeks re-election

LA JARA — Wednesday, State Representative Donald Valdez announced that he is transitioning his campaign into running for re-election for Colorado House District 62 amidst the threat to the San Luis Valley’s aquifer.

Earlier this year, former Governor Bill Owens and his developers proposed siphoning water from the San Luis Valley aquifer to the Denver area to accommodate for increasing urban growth. Many small towns and rural areas that have allowed their water to be sold have turned to dust in the coming decades.

The growing threat of this prospect convinced Representative Valdez he could best serve his community in the State House until the aquifer threat is squashed.

Valdez said, “from day one, I’ve gotten into public service to help my community, to help Rural Coloradans. The best way for me to do that right now isn’t in Washington—where everyone is obsessed with money, power, and partisanship—but in the State House. The San Luis Valley is facing an existential threat to our water, and I can best fight against it in the State House.”

In his time running for Congressional District 3, Valdez added an important perspective to the conversation. He focused on the real lives of real people in Rural America.

Valdez is a successful State Representative who is running for reelection in Colorado House District 62. He grew up farming and ranching, then went on to fight for Colorado agriculture at the USDA and protect the environment at the Natural Resources Conservation Service. In the State House, Valdez has been a voice for Rural Coloradans in a time when politics leaves more Rural Coloradans behind. The primary election is on June 30th, 2020.
