Rio Grande Initiative work sessions set

ALAMOSA — San Luis Valley Great Outdoors invites the public to join the third of four community work sessions for the Revitalizing the Rio Grande Initiative - a partnership with San Luis Valley Great Outdoors, City of Alamosa Parks and Recreation, the Rio Grande Farm Park, and The Trust for Public Land. The next Revitalize the Rio work session will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Alamosa Family Recreation Center.

The third work session for revitalizing the Rio community will be a fun and action-packed session. Building on the common ground identified in the desired results statements and the list of indicators we have been developing, the group will look at data from Alamosa that answer, “How are we doing now compared to our vision for Alamosa?” With a shared understanding of the trends and barriers to making the vision a reality, then we will talk action.

Everyone is invited to attend. Breakfast and coffee will be available at 8:15. Please RSVP at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/revitalize-the-rio-work-session-tickets-41473006880

For those who can’t make it to the morning work session, SLV GO also invites folks to join a community gathering on Jan. 10 in the evening to learn more about the Revitalizing the Rio Grande Initiative.

This initiative is an outgrowth of the City of Alamosa’s Comprehensive Plan in which city residents identified Embracing the Rio Grande River as a community priority. Over the last three months, stakeholders from across Alamosa have come together to discuss how the Rio Grande River is an asset to local health and wellness, economy, and community. The group will share the outputs from those conversations and widen the circle to seek more input and ideas. The group welcomes participation from all parts of the community who can help think about the river’s environmental, economic, health, social, and inspirational values.

Dinner is available at 5:30 p.m. Welcoming remarks and a brief presentation will be given at 6 p.m. The remainder of the evening is an open house. Participants are encouraged to drop in at any point throughout the evening to learn more about the Initiative, stop-in at workstations, and provide input.

There will be an arts workstation for kids who want to create their vision for the Rio Grande as well as a workstation for older students who wish to write poetry about the river.
