Ronald C Iske

Ronald C Iske passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at home in Monte Vista, CO with his wife of 62 years by his side. Ronald was born in Alamosa, CO on July 27, 1936 to Ronald and Lily Iske. They lived in several different towns in Colorado, Kansas and Missouri until Ronald’s Junior year in high school when they moved to Monte Vista, where Ronald’s father became the City Manager of Monte Vista for several years.

After Ronald graduated from high school he attended Adams State for one year, then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954. During his four years in the United States Navy, he spent one year at the White Sands Missile Range near Las Cruces, New Mexico the rest of his 4 years was spent on the ocean on the USS Kearsarge (CV-33), a long-hulled Essex-class aircraft carrier, and the Norton Sound, a missile ship. While in the Navy he received the equivalent of an electrical engineering degree while he sailed around South America including going through the Panama Canal, was in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans and visited Japan, Hawaii and many other places. He also was a baritone in the Navy Blue Jackets during his 4 years in the Navy. He both liked and hated the Navy and left in 1959.

Following the Navy years, Ronald returned to Monte Vista and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Inslee on Oct 4, 1959. They moved to Northern Colorado for 10 years working in electronics which included building and maintaining one of the first computers. They had 2 girls while in Northern Colorado and he traveled so much for his job he decided if he wanted to know his girls they needed to make a change, so they moved back to Monte Vista where he worked as an electrician for 10 years before beginning his own electrical business. Through his business, he made many good friends and wired everything from houses, to sprinklers, to potato warehouses for many people in the San Luis Valley.

Ronald had a deep faith in God and was a family man, if he wasn’t working he was home with the family. He loved to fish and always caught the most fish, with both daughters trying to outdo him. He loved to hunt with his friends and had a loyal bird dog he hunted pheasants and we know those two have met back up in heaven and are hunting once again. He enjoyed astronomy, tying his own flies, and him and his wife spent many years rewiring and remodeling the house they lived in for over 35 years. He also loved to travel whether it was a car trip around the US or a cruise to Alaska.

He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and left a wonderful legacy. He is going to be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Lily. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann; daughters: Luron (Michael) Singer, Alamosa, and Mialei Iske, Colorado Springs; grandchildren: Nicole Singer (Andrew McClure) Flagstaff, AZ; Ronald (Maria) Singer, Alamosa, CO; Michiala (Josh) King Isleton, CA; great-grandchildren: Chloe McClure, Douglas King, Octavia King, Marina Singer.
