Rookies win tournament

GREELEY — Colorado Rookies won the Six Seventeen tournament over the weekend.

The Rookies are a 13 under baseball team from the San Luis Valley, and they traveled to Greeley this past weekend to play in a USSSA tournament against some good competition.

The Rookies started off pool play against Power Alley out of Loveland. The Rookies won their first game 10-2.

Next, the team they took on Colorado Lightning Eubank, from Ft. Collins and Windsor, and lost the game 7-5.

They were seeded fourth in the tournament out of eight teams. That put them in the upper bracket (A) with a chance to win the championship.

The Rookies took on undefeated Loveland Dirtbags on Sunday and they defeated them by the score of 15-7.

That win put the Rookies in the championship against the team that beat them on Saturday.

The Rookies were able to get revenge by beating the Colorado Lightning Eubank in the championship game on Sunday.  The final score was 17-4.
