ALAMOSA — The 2020 Alamosa Round-UP is one of 5 rodeos in the running for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Small Rodeo of the Year award. The Round-UP is in a group of awesome rodeos nominated this year. Other Top 5 Nominees include Jerome-Idaho, Mesquite-Texas and Yuma-Colorado and 2019’s winner Blackfoot-Idaho. The Small Rodeo category is the largest group of rodeos in The PRCA.  To qualify as a Small Rodeo in the PRCA you must have less than $3,000 in added prize money per event, $24,000 total.  There were 95 rodeos in the 2020 Small Rodeo Category Nationally, in the PRCA.

“Small Rodeos” make up the largest body of rodeos in The PRCA.

The final online ballot process will begin on Oct. 19, 2020. The winners in each category will be announced at the PRCA Awards Banquet at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth Texas on Dec. 2.

The Alamosa Round-UP has been a part of The San Luis Valley’s Heritage for over 60 years.  2020 marked its 11th year back as a PRCA Rodeo.   Of course, 2020 was like no other year, and brought a mountain of new challenges.  But like many rodeos across the Country, the Round-UP did not back down, and with the help of the entire community, persevered, and made it happen.

The Alamosa Round-UP had to change locations in 2020, out to Jerry and Dawn Honeycutt’s Farm.  The term “Hometown Rodeo” took on a whole new meaning.  The outpouring of support was incredible, and the whole community really stepped up to make it happen.  People donated light towers, water trucks, ATVs, concrete blocks, hand washing stations, trash cans, furniture, tractors, portable buildings, porta-potties, plants, and light poles and cell service (so that The 2020 Round-UP could be featured on The Cowboy Channel). On top of all that, people donated their time and sweat equity setting up a portable arena, putting together massive bleachers, putting up banners and volunteering at the event itself.

“The Alamosa Round-UP would not be possible without the loyal fans, and of course the incredible list of sponsors, this nomination is really going to our community,” said Round-UP President Dawn Honeycutt “They made it happen, this is an incredible honor, for the Round-UP. I couldn’t be more proud of this Valley we call home.”
