Rounding Up to help the Dumb Friends League

ALAMOSA -- The Dumb Friends League was a recent recipient of a check from the Narrow Gauge Book Coop for $422.91. The money came from a program the members of the book coop began called the NGBC Round Up. Every month, a local non-profit is chosen to be the recipient, and during that month customers can “round up” the total of their purchase to the next dollar amount, with the excess change going to the non-profit.

In March, the Dumb Friends League was chosen. The Dumb Friends League San Luis Valley Animal Center offers adoptions, shelter for homeless dogs and cats and lost and found services. The facility also offers a spay/neuter program for community-owned dogs and cats.

“Customers are able to help out local non-profit groups by simply giving their change,” said Allison Cruse, Narrow Gauge Book Coop store manager. “This is a wonderful way to give back, and I am thrilled with the positive response from our customers.”

The store is a community-run book cooperative in downtown Alamosa that opened its doors during the summer of 2018.

Narrow Gauge Book Coop, located at 602 Main Street in Alamosa, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
