Saguache death under investigation

SAGUACHE — Following a tip early Friday afternoon regarding a body on the roof of a local business, Saguache County Sheriff Dan Warwick confirmed that earlier on Friday the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) became involved in an active crime scene at the Lumber Mart and is currently in charge.

Crime scene tape blocked access to the business, located a few blocks off Highway 285. Warwick said dispatch received a call about 4:30 a.m. that a man was believed to be deceased on the roof of the Lumber Mart.

Saguache Ambulance and Fire Department responded to the scene. A team from Safe Streets was also sent to the town, consisting of both CBI and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents. The Colorado State Patrol also responded.

Warwick had no explanation for why the man was on the roof of the business at 4:30 a.m., calling the death “a tragedy.” Warwick commented that the business owner is liked and well known to many in the town but failed to comment further on what the connection between the victim and the storeowner might have been.

Further information will be forthcoming from CBI soon, he said.
