ALAMOSA — San Luis Care Center, a skilled nursing and rehab facility in Alamosa, was recently named a 2018-2019 U.S. News & World Report Best Nursing Home for Short-Term Rehab.

This year, the publication changed how it lists its ratings. Centers around the country were rated in an Overall category, and those that offer short-term rehabilitation were rated in an additional category – Short-Stay Rehab. According to Mark White, vice president of specialty marketing at U.S. News, “Only 19 percent of U.S. nursing homes earned at least one badge; some earned both.”

The Short-Stay Rehab category takes into account staffing, outcomes, resident complaints and processes of care, as well as vaccination percentages, nursing staff training and other measures.

“We are honored to be recognized with such an elite group of facilities around the country,” said Deb Barnes, executive director at the center. “As a team, we put a tremendous amount of work into making sure each resident has an individualized experience that has exceptional quality for the patient and their family. Our therapy and nursing teams work hand in hand to ensure we are able to meet the residents’ needs and to help them gain as much independence as possible.”
