San Luis Valley shares Halloween activities for 2018

VALLEY — Goblins, superheroes and princesses from one end of the San Luis Valley to the other will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy treats and other fun activities surrounding Halloween. Some of the events planned include:

In ALAMOSA

Haunted Manor

The Haunted Manor will be held behind the Green Spot at 701 San Juan Ave., Alamosa, on October 27 and 31 from 5-7 p.m. for a non-scary, lights-on experience with treats and mild scares for the kids; 7-9 p.m. a little scary for brave kids and chicken adults; 9-11 p.m. for the scariest Haunted House in town. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under.

ASU Haunted House

The Adams State University Art League Haunted House hours are 6 p.m. until 12 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Art Building north entrance (across from Zacheis Planetarium). Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for brave kids. Bring a canned food or non-perishable for $1 off per person.

Performance Bronze Pour

The Adams State University Art Department will host a free Performance Bronze Pour from 6:30-7:15 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, in the kiln yard, south end of Art Building. Enjoy drumming and watch the flames lick up black powder as an opening act to the actual hot liquid bronze pour. Dress in Día de los Muertos costumes.

Concert and Costumes

On Halloween, Wednesday, Oct. 31st, at the San Luis Valley Brewing Company will host a FREE, 18 year and older, live concert by Sam Pace and the Gilded Grit at 10 p.m. Costumes and dancing encouraged.

Halloween Skate Night

The Alamosa Multi-Use Pavilion/Ice Rink will host a Halloween Skate Night on October 31 from 6-9 p.m. Wear a Halloween costume and skate at the ‘coolest’ Halloween celebration in town. See www.alamosarec.org or call the Alamosa Family Recreation Center at 719/589-2105.

Harvest Party

Living Water Bible Fellowship located at 2910 Clark Street, Alamosa will be hosting their annual Harvest Party, October 31, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This is a free event offering games for kids, prizes, candy and food. Costumes are welcome, no masks.

Haunted Asylum

Adams State Nursing Department Haunted Asylum will be held from 6-11 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, on the second floor of Richardson Hall. Ticket sales end at 10 p.m. Admission is $5/soul with $1 off if you bring a canned food item or winter coat.

Haunted at HobbyTown

Old Man Jenkins Haunted House will be hosted by HobbyTown, 3211 Main Street, Alamosa, on October 28 from 4-7 p.m.

Fright Fest

The Alamosa Police Department will once again host Fright Fest at Cole Park on October 31 from 3 p.m. until dark. Enjoy a variety of activities and treats.

In ANTONITO

The Steam Train Hotel show family friendly movies Oct. 27 and 28: Saturday Oct. 27, The Addams Family, and Scooby Doo on Oct. 28 on the wall next to the hotel at 7 p.m. or when it’s dark h. Glow sticks, food, drinks and snacks will be available. Kids can dress up, and the best costume will receive a prize. Bring chair and blanket and dress warmly. Come at 6 p.m. to carve or paint a pumpkin.

In CAPULIN

The 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat sponsored by Rollin Deep Car Club and the Capulin Community Center will be held at the Capulin Community Center from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31. Participation is free. Decorate your trunk and fill it with treats for the kids. Hotdogs and chips will be available for purchase.

In CONEJOS COUNTY

Come carve and decorate pumpkins at the Capulin Library and at the Antonito Library on Saturday, October 27 starting at 11 a.m.

In CREEDE

Halloween Boomtown

Halloween Boomtown will be held at Creede Repertory Theatre at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Ruth Theatre in Creede. Rated PG-13. Get tickets, $10, at the door or at creederep.org

Trunk or Treat

The Creede Parks and Recreation Department will hold its annual Halloween Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 31 featuring fun and games for the entire family and a community potluck at 4:45 p.m. in the parking lot outside of the old gym. Contact 658-2729. There will be prizes for the best decorated trunk.

In DEL NORTE

Haunted House

Del Norte schools will host a haunted house at the Underwood Building from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for kids.

Hospital Trunk or Treat

Rio Grande Hospital & Clinics is having a trunk or treat on Halloween from 4-6 p.m. at the hospital in Del Norte. Participation is free; just decorate a vehicle and distribute candy and/or promotional trinkets to the attending children. Gateway Trunk or Treat

The Gateway Church of Del Norte will host its annual Trunk or Treat event on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m. in the church parking lot behind the main building. Enjoy candy, hot dogs, hot chocolate and apple cider plus fun activities.

Children’s Carnival

The Del Norte schools will host a children’s carnival from 4:30-8 p.m. on Oct. 31. Cost is $5 for bands. Park inside the mini gym parking lot, 10th and Spruce.

In FORT GARLAND

The Fort Garland Museum will host “Haunted Fort” and Trunk or Treat from 6:30-8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31. The fort is located at 29477 Highway 159, Fort Garland. The Haunted Fort starts at 6:30 p.m. with tours every 15 minutes until 8:45 p.m. Not interested in a scare? Then come to the Trunk n Treat with games, face painting, a costume contest and more. Admission is one canned good per person or $2. All proceeds support the local food bank.

The Halloween fun continues on November 1 with more Haunted Fort Tours and the first annual Boo Bash. Enjoy a special night full of fun, music, and dancing. Haunted tours start at 6:30 p.m. and continue every 15 minuets until 8:45 p.m. The Boo Bash will be held from 9-11:30 p.m. All concession proceeds go to the after prom committee at Sierra Grande School. Admission to both events is a can of food or $2 per person. Come in costume.

In LA JARA

La Jara Smash Fest will be Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. at 312 South Main in La Jara with pumpkin patch, decorating and craving contests, trunk or treat (11:30-12:45) and pumpkin chunkin at 1 p.m.

MONTE VISTA

The 4th Annual Rocktoberfest will be at the Ski Hi Complex in Monte Vista on Wednesday, October 31. It is completely free to the community and there will be games and fun for all ages. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the Fear Busters Pre-show (suitable for entire family) followed by games, rides, contests, carnival games, bounce houses, and more at 7 p.m. 

In SANFORD

The Rocky Mountain SER Early Learning Center parent committee is holding a trunk or treat for the little ones that attend at the Sanford facility on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 5:30 p.m. They are asking if any parents or anyone else would want to volunteer their time to decorate their trunk and come to the community center and hand out candy. There will also be baked goods and hot chocolate for sale.

In SAN LUIS

The town of San Luis and San Luis Fire Department will host Trunk or Treat from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 in the parking lot of Town Hall. The public and businesses are invited to bring Halloween decorated cars or trucks filled with candy for trick or treaters. The top three best-decorated trunks will receive cash prizes, $50 for first, $25 for second and $15 for third.

In SOUTH FORK

The South Fork Fire Department will host a trunk or treat event with games, free food donated by Two Rivers BBQ, costume contest and bonfire on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 5-8 p.m. Call 719-588-0656.
