Sanford dominates All-Southern Peaks League Class 1A selections

ALAMOSA – The Southern Peaks League released its All-League track and field teams at the end of May.

The All-League teams were based on MaxPreps state leaders as of May 23 which was just after the state tournaments.

Sanford had the most selections among the Class 1A teams in the SPL.

Among the Sanford girls, Haley Faucette, Asia Caldon and Holly McDaniel were All-League in two different events. Faucette earned All-League honors in the 400-meter dash and the triple jump, Caldon in the 800-meter run and the 1,600-meter run, and McDaniel in the 100-meter high hurdkes and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

One of the Sanford girl, Zaidah Najera, was All-League in the 3,200-meter run.

The Sanford girls were also All-League in all five relay events – the 4x100, the 4x200, the 4x400, the 4x800 and the 800-meter sprint medley.

For the Sanford boys, Kelton Gartrell and Ren Canty were All-League in two events. Gartrell earned these honors in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, while Canty was All-League in the 800-meter run and the 3,200-meter run.

Another Sanford male athlete, Lincoln Reynolds, earned All-League in the 400-meter dash.

Sanford also earned All-League in the 4x100-meter and 4x200-meter relays.

Other SLV athletes who received All-League in boys events included Antonito’s Jesus Madril in the 110-meter high hurdles and Jasiah Jiron in the high jump, Moffat’s Kodiak Reigel in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and Ziah Pesqueria in the long jump, and Creede’s Ryder Whitehorn in the triple jump, the shot put and the discus.

Also making All-League among SLV girls was Sangre de Cristo’s Peyton Mets in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

Rounding out the All-League male athletes was La Veta’s Jessey Montunnas in the pole vault. La Veta was All-League in the 4x400, and Primero in the 4x800.

The remaining All-League female athletes were La Veta’s Kendyll Eddleman in the long jump, La Veta’s Grace D’Esposito in the high jump and pole vault and the high jump, and La Veta’s Diana Topping in the shot put and the discus.

The Class 2A All-SPL athletes will be published in Wednesday’s edition.
