Sangre De Cristo FFA Field Crops Team wins Colorado State FFA Field Crops Competition

On May 5th and 7th Sangre De Cristo FFA competed in the Colorado State FFA Career Development Events.  FFA members from across the state competed in 17 different CDE events.  SDC members competed in Veterinary Science, Field Crops, and Agriculture Mechanics. 

The Field Crops team of Luke Christensen, Leighton Curtis, Peyton Metz and Renae Sinclair will go on to compete at the National FFA Convention in October in Indianapolis Indiana.  The National contest will be a hybrid format with a portion of the contest online and a portion in person.  The Field Crops CDE consisted of 17 teams and 57 individual participants.  Placing Gold with the overall high score was Renae Sinclair, Leighton Curtis received a Gold, Peyton Metz received a Silver and Luke Christensen received a Bronze.  The students had to complete a written exam, read and understand fertilizer, pesticide, and herbicide labels. Also students had to identify agriculture crops, seeds, weeds, and pest. 

The Vet Science team of Allison Baker, Kylee Christensen, and Rachael Fritz received a Bronze award and all placed Bronze individually.  During the competition student had to Identify various equipment and tools, animals, and parasites.  Students also had to complete written exams and a scenario.

The Ag Mechanics team consisted of Braxton Getz, Angel Rubio-Mix, and Austin Stockebrand.  Angel Rubio-Mix received Silver and Braxton Getz received a Bronze.  During the competition students had to perform a plumbing activity, identify tools and farm equipment, diagnose an electrical issue on a tractor, and estimate costs and fill out a bill of material for a trailer.
