Sangre scores three-set sweep of Centennial

MOSCA – The Sangre de Cristo High School volleyball team hosted league rival Centennial Tuesday at the Lady Thunderbirds’ gym.

The Lady T-Birds came away with the victory sweeping the Lady Rams by scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-11.

Sangre opened the first set by scoring the first two points, but Centennial scored three straight points. That would be the Lady Rams’ only lead in the first set as the Lady Thunderbirds went on a 15-4 run for a 17-6 advantage.

Centennial was able to close within 21-13, but Sangre scored the final four points to take the set 25-13.

Centennial opened the second set by taking a 4-2 lead, but Sangre went on another long rally, this time a 19-3 run for a 22-11 advantage.

The Lady Rams got as close as 23-13, but the Lady T-Birds scored the final two points for another 25-13 win.

Sangre dominated the third set from start to finish. It had a 17-3 lead, but once again Centennial attempted a rally as it closed to within 17-8.

The Lady Thunderbirds then outscored the Lady Rams 8-3 to close out the set and the match 25-11.

Peyton Metz led the Sangre de Cristo hitting game with 11 kills. Idahlia Garcia was next with seven, and Palma Enriquez followed with six.

Presley Wilson led in assists with 13.

The Lady Thunderbirds had a total of 20 service aces and they were led by Metz with six. Garcia was next with four, and Enriquez and Wilson both had three.

Leading the Lady Rams’ hitting game was Jayden De Leon with four kills. Xiomara Maestas led in assists with five.

Sangre de Cristo (4-8, 2-0 Southern Peaks League) will travel to Creede on Thursday.

Centennial (1-9, 0-2) will also play Creede next, but it will be Saturday in San Luis.
