Sargent swimmers defeat Pueblo Central

ALAMOSA – The Sargent High School girls swimming team hosted Pueblo Central Tuesday at the Plachy Hall pool.

The Lady Farmers were able to come away with a victory as they defeated the Lady Wildcats 95-75.

“It was a great win,” said Sargent coach Melinda Hunzeker. “The girls swam great today.”

Leading the Lady Farmers was Emma Sewell who won two individual events. She won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:11.11 and she also took the 500-yard freestyle in 6:48.20.

Sargent won three additional individual events. Katherine Sewell won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:22.08, Kaylee Gonzales-Moore was the winner of the 200-yard individual medley in 3:01.04, and Danielle Aquino took the 100-yard backstroke in 1:13.95.

“Katherine Sewell won, Emma Sewell won, Danielle Aquino won the 100 backstroke,” Hunzeker said. “They did well.”

The Lady Farmers also recorded several second-place finishes. Ines Guillaume was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:38.37, Dayzha Cruz-Martinez was second in the 200 IM in 3:01.17, Lia Castillo was second in the 100 freestyle in 1:13.75, Jamie Carroll was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:29.90, and Gonzales-Moore was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:28.87.

Placing third for the Lady Farmers were Annahi Molina who was third in the 50-yard freestyle in 37.45 seconds, Guillaume who was third in the 100 butterfly in 1:22.32, and Cruz-Martinez who was third in the 500 freestyle in 7:58.44.

Sargent also won two of the three relays. The team of Aquino. Gonzales-Moore and the Sewells won the 200-yard medley relay in 2:12.55, and Aquino, Guillaume and the Sewells won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:40.78.

Sargent will travel to Pueblo County today, and on Saturday, the Lady Farmers will host Salida. Meet time on Saturday is at 9 a.m. at the Plachy Hall pool.

Two Lady Farmers have qualified for state

Two members of the Sargent team have qualified for the Class 3A state meet. Emma Sewell has qualified in the 100 butterfly and the 200 IM, while Katherine Sewell has qualified in the 200 IM, the 100 breaststroke and the 50 freestyle.
