School lockdown is precaution

CONEJOS COUNTY — North Conejos School District school buildings went into lockdown on Wednesday until a wanted individual was apprehended.

Superintendent Curt Wilson explained in a district’s Facebook post that at the advisement of law enforcement Centauri Middle School, Centauri High School and the central office initiated a lockdown.

“A wanted individual sought by law enforcement was in close proximity to the school premises but was soon apprehended,” Wilson explained. “At no time was there a direct threat to students; however, the district takes staff and student safety very seriously and will always work with law enforcement to protect our most valued commodity—students.”

Wilson commended student efforts in regards to following the training received for a lockdown and for following directions. He also expressed gratitude for law enforcement “and their outstanding efforts to communicate with our district and work with us to continue to provide the best care for staff and students.”
