VALLEY — Two outstanding Monte Vista High School seniors, Kaitlynn Porter and Jacob Chavez, who excelled in academics, athletics, and community service, were awarded this scholarship of $1000 each on May 22 which will assist these seniors to begin their journey to pursue a higher education.

This scholarship began in 2009 when Glen a Sgt. in the United States Marine Corps was killed in action while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Glen Martinez was a Monte Vista HS graduate, the son of Ron and Carol Martinez who set up the scholarship in Glen’s memory.

An annual 5K Walk/Run and Veterans Golf Tournament helps to provide funds for the scholarships.
