Sgt. Glen Martinez Golf Tournament and 5k Run/Walk

MONTE VISTA — On a beautiful day in May the Monte Vista Golf Course welcomed 10 teams for the Glen Martinez Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament.

The team of Ronnie Swartz,  Kris Gonzales, Jeff Gonzales and Heather Brownell were victorious with a team score of 61. The second place team consisted of Mark Jones, Adelmo Martinez and Jim McAuliffe with a score of 63. The third place team was Gilbert Sanchez, Crystal Voss, Eric Voss and  Christine Gillenwater with a score of 66.

All the golfers also received Titleist golf balls donated by Ronnie Swartz and his company from Ray, N.D. Each ball was monogrammed with the message "Our  Hero Sgt. Glen Martinez, #65" to commemorate Martinez's football and baseball jersey numbers monogrammed on each ball. In addition each player also received a bluetooth speaker from the Monte Vista Golf Club. Another event held by Dixon Golf challenged golfers to hit their ball on or closest to the green to win a sleeve of Dixon Golf Balls. The challenge saw multiple winners. The tournament came to a close with Ingrid Watson and Savannah Torres preparing a meal to serve all the golfers when they were finished.

The 9th Annual Martinez  5k  Run/Walk  held on May 26th drew  approximately 83  men and women participants to honor and remember U.S. Marine Sgt. Glen Martinez, age 31 who was killed in action along with three other Marines when the Humvee they were riding in hit a roadside bomb in  Iraq  on May 2, 2008.

Following are the results from the Glen Martinez 5K Memorial Run/Walk.
