Shooting in Capulin

CAPULIN — There was another shooting in Capulin Monday afternoon. This one happened in the 8000 block of Highway 15 when two people were shot, according to Garth Crowther, Conejos County sheriff.

The victims were transported to area hospitals in the San Luis Valley. One victim was in critical condition, and the other was in serious condition, Crowther said. He could not confirm where the victims sustained gunshot wounds, however.

At press time, the investigation was in its early stages, and no further information regarding the victims, suspects or motive were available.  Crowther said there is no threat to the community in a press release.

Crowther requests anyone with any information “about this senseless crime to contact the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office at 719-376-6778. This crime is not a reflection of the many good, hard-working people who live in the area and is an isolated incident.” He also expressed his thoughts and prayers to the victims and would further like to remind the community to let the justice system run its course for the suspects and not perpetuate the violence by acting out with further violence.”

Assisting in the search for the two suspects were the Colorado State Patrol, the Costilla and the Rio Grande Sheriff’s Offices, and the La Jara, Sanford, Monte Vista, Manassa and Antonito police departments, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation was in route at press time.
