Sierra Grande ranked 13th in Mile High Prep Report’s 6-man football standings

ALAMOSA – The Mile High Prep Report released its preseason 6-man football standings Friday on the association’s web site.

One local team is in the Top 16 as Sierra Grande is ranked 13th. The Panthers went 10-1 last season and advanced to the 6-man state quarterfinals. However, the Panthers lost several players from last year’s team because of graduation.

Stratton, which was the state runners-up in 2021, is the top-ranked team. Granada, the team that eliminated Sierra Grande from the playoffs last year, is ranked second.

Fleming is ranked third, and defending state champion Cheyenne Wells is ranked fourth.

Prairie is fifth, followed by Branson/Kim, Idalia, Walsh, Cheraw, North Park, Arickaree/Woodlin, Genoa-Hugo, Sierra Grande, Briggsdale, Eads and Otis.

Mountain Valley is listed as “other teams to watch.” Also on the list are La Veta, Peetz, Kit Carson, Cotopaxi and Deer Trail.

The 2022 football season for all local high school teams begins on Aug. 26.
