SLV Big Band concert is salute to veterans Nov. 4

ALAMOSA — As Veterans Day nears, the SLV Big Band will once again perform a concert dedicated to all veterans.

Kicking off a week especially dedicated to veterans, the concert will be held this Saturday, November 4, at 7 p.m. in Richardson Hall at Adams State University in Alamosa. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m.

Admission is free, although donations will be accepted at the end of the concert.

The concert is in appreciation for all veterans — men and women in active service as well ad MIA (Missing In Action) and KIA (Killed In Action) — for what they have done and are doing for this country.

The concert is not about the band but about those who are serving and have served, concert organizers stressed.

Anyone who knows a veteran who is unable to make it to the concert on their own, please offer them a ride so they can enjoy this special tribute. Adams State is handicap accessible.

The music will include traditional big band as well as contemporary big band.

SLV Big Band is a musical organization comprised of a wide range of community members including doctors, lawyers, current and retired music teachers, business leaders and others.

The 18-piece band is an eclectic group of people who have a common interest in big band and jazz. The band proves that just because students have graduated from high school or college does not mean they have to put their band instruments away. They can still enjoy playing in a band as an adult as part of a community organization. People from many walks of life come together to play and perform.

The group is entirely volunteer, under the direction of Al Duran.

The band performs in various venues throughout the year in the San Luis Valley, Salida and Red River, New Mexico. The SLV Big Band is part of the annual lineup for the Sundays at Six concerts in Cole Park in Alamosa, for example.

Please join the SLV Big Band in paying tribute to veterans during this annual veterans concert Saturday night in Adams State’s Richardson Hall.
