SLV Special Olympics bowling results

The San Luis Valley Special Olympics program recently wrapped up its 2019 bowling season by competing in the Southeast Regional tournament in Pueblo on Octo. 12.  Valley athletes competed in singles competition and received the following awards in their respective divisions based on gender, age, and qualifying score:

TOP BOWLERS: Marc Alfaro, second place; Robert Allaart, first place; John Bailey, second place; Sharon Bailey, third place; Michelle Chacon, first place; Michael Maez, first place; Lionel Manzanares, second place; Chris Martinez, first place, CT Rogers, fourth place; Chuck Silva, third place; Karie Valdez, first place; Loren Velasquez, th place; and Virgil Wyatt, third place.

Athletes worked hard during weekly practices that started the first week of September at the Stars & Strikes Entertainment bowling alley in Monte Vista.

All bowlers were required to submit an average based on a set number of games in order to advance to the regional competition. They were assisted every practice by several students from the Adams State University Kinesiology Department’s senior capstone class.

The next sports season for the San Luis Valley Special Olympics program is basketball. Practice begins Saturday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. in ASU’s East Campus gym.  For more information or to help coach, contact Peggy Johnson at 587-7408 or [email protected].
