South Fork firefighter found dead

SOUTH FORK – Firefighter Chris Miyaki died Wednesday of yet unknown causes, reportedly while in Albuquerque, announced South Fork Fire Rescue in a Facebook post. He served as a firefighter with the department for the past year and was in the process of obtaining his Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

He was also actively working on expanding his wildland fire certifications.

The death is currently under investigation by the Albuquerque Police Department, according to the post. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date.

Linette Nye Schmidt, public information officer for South Fork Fire Rescue, said Thursday that no additional details concerning Miyaki’s death are currently available, but will be updated when determined.
