South Fork fireworks show cancelled

SOUTH FORK—Due to the dry conditions, high temperatures and extreme fire danger, the July 3rd Fireworks Show has been cancelled this year. Fire department members, fire district board members along with the support of the Town of South Fork board of trustees have thoroughly evaluated the firework plans, current conditions and have come to the difficult decision of cancelling the firework show.

The safety of participants, volunteers and the potential threat of wildfire, is of their upmost concern. While they will continue to monitor the weather conditions for improvement as July 3 approaches. At this time fire weather indicators are at critical values.

The safety of the town, its residents, and its visitors would be put at risk with the continuation of the show during these dry conditions.

While the fireworks show is cancelled, all other events planned for the celebration on July 3 will continue as scheduled, including the parade and the South Fork Fire Rescue Catfish Fry, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the South Fork Fire Department.
