Special meeting called for community update on COVID

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Board of County Commissioners is holding a special meeting at 8:30am on Thursday morning for an update from the Alamosa County Public Health Department and the office of SLV Emergency Preparedness related to COVID.

Although the agenda states nothing more than “community update on COVID”, it is noteworthy that positive cases of Alamosa are surging at an alarming rate.

As of Wednesday, August 25, 2021, San Luis Valley Public Health Partnership (slvphp) reported  a total of 17 positive cases in Alamosa County with a total of 77 positive cases in the San Luis Valley.

As of Tuesday, August 31, 2021 – just six days later -- it was reported that there were 52 cases in Alamosa County, three times the number from the previous week and 114 positive cases in the valley.

The sharp spike in cases seems to be restricted to Alamosa as two other counties -- Mineral and Rio Grande -- actually have a decrease in positive cases and increases in Conejos, Costilla and Saguache were minimal.

Topics discussed during Thursday’s meeting will be reported on in Friday’s edition of the Valley Courier.
