Weather affects Intermountain District Tournament

ALAMOSA - Because of Tuesday’s snow storm and the closure of Wolf Creek Pass, the Class 3A Intermountain District Girls Basketball Tournament has been postponed.

The girls were originally scheduled to play Thursday and the boys tonight. However, both the girls and boys will play today.

The tournament kicks off with girls action as Crested Butte plays Ignacio at 3 p.m., followed by a boys game between Montezuma-Cortez and Bayfield at 4:30 p.m. The Centauri girls host Montezuma-Cortez at 6 p.m., followed by the Centauri boys playing Ignacio at 7:30 p.m.

The tournament concludes on Saturday. The girls third-place game will be played at 11 a.m., followed by the boys third-place game at 12:30 p.m. The girls championship is at 2 p.m. and the boys championship is at 3:30 p.m.

Centennial’s Maestas scores 1,000th point

SAN LUIS - Centennial High School’s Xiomara Meastas surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career in the Lady Rams’ 68-38 win over Antonito in the first round of the Class 1A District 6 Tournament Tuesday at the Centennial gym.

Maestas had 1,023 career points going into Thursday’s semifinal game against Sierra Grande.
