Stampede crowds remain strong

MONTE VISTA– 2019 marked another successful year for the Ski Hi Stampede. While the final attendance tally is not yet complete, the numbers are showing that the crowds came out in force for the Valley’s biggest summer celebration.

According to Stampede Committee President, Karla Willschau, there were approximately 3,500 in attendance for the Thursday night concert that featured country music artists Randy Houser and Walker Hayes.

Throughout the weekend, it is estimated that around 6,000 attended the PRCA rodeo performances on Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. “We are still working on the accounting,” said Willschau. There is also a consensus that the good weather and making Saturday’s rodeo an evening performance were contributors to the good turnouts that were seen during the festivities. The Saturday night rodeo received a particularly positive response with a capacity crowd.

By all indications the mainstay tradition known as the Ski Hi Stampede is here to stay.

With only one more year to go, conversations are already underway about the 100th-anniversary celebration that is set to take place in 2021.
