Stapleton makes campaign stop in Alamosa

ALAMOSA — Walker Stapleton, Republican candidate for governor, made a campaign stop in Alamosa on Saturday.

Stapleton is the current Colorado State Treasurer. He is a husband and father of three. He is running for governor because he wants to give his children as well as current and future generations a better Colorado.

Three of the most important issues in the race for Stapleton are the economy, water and energy.

Economic development and stability are very important to Stapleton. If elected, he said he would seek to expand job opportunities for Colorado. He was a strong supporter of the tax reforms that were recently passed at the federal level. He is also fully supportive of universal broadband. Stapleton is also committed to working towards having affordable, accessible healthcare available for Coloradans.

As a firm believer in the importance of rural Colorado, Stapleton hopes to be able to take a proactive approach in addressing Colorado’s water issues. Some ways this would happen include an increase in funding for water projects through the Colorado Water Plan as well as expanding storage capacity for reservoirs across the state. He is also fully supportive of keeping agriculture viable.

Stapleton also pointed out that the importance of energy also ties in to the importance of water. Without reliable, clean energy sources there is no severance tax, hence no funding for vital water projects. Hence, the preservation of the energy industry is key for Coloradans, Stapleton said. Stapleton is an advocate for preservation of these industries which he sees as key to the preservation of jobs as well.

Stapleton has chosen Lang Sias as his running mate. He will also seek to choose knowledgeable and collaborative individuals for his cabinet if he is the next governor.

Stapleton said he hopes to be a part of helping to give Colorado a better and brighter future and is ready and willing to serve.
