Star singer-songwriter Ellis Paul to appear at Society Hall

Ellis Paul, one of the biggest stars in modern folk music, will perform in Alamosa on Sunday.

ALAMOSA — Society Hall, at 400 Ross Avenue in Alamosa, is thrilled to present Ellis Paul, one of the biggest stars in modern folk music, in concert Sunday, November 4th at 7 pm. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance, or $25 at the door, and are available online at www.societyhall.org, or in Alamosa at the Green Spot at 711 State Ave.

“They don’t exactly have rock stars in folk music, but if they did, Ellis Paul would be number one,” remarks Alamosa musician and Society Hall board member Don Richmond. He continues, “He’s an incredibly powerful performer, and a songwriter of great depth and elegance, whose songs both move and inspire.”

The New York Times says, “Despite his success and sense of history, Mr. Paul remains an artist with his eye on the future and an interest in discovering the transformative potential in his music.”

Celebrating 25 years as a touring musician, Ellis Paul has released 17 adult albums and two children’s albums, published two children’s books and has garnered many awards from the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Award (1994) to 14 Boston Music Awards – including Folk Act of the Year. In 2015, he founded the New England Songwriters’ Retreat (NESR), an annual 4-day weekend retreat held in early September at The Guest House in Chester, CT.

Some artists document their lives through their music. Others chronicle their times. It’s a rare artist who can do both, telling their own story through songs that also encapsulate the essence of people and places who have helped define their era overall. Woody Guthrie comes to mind, and so does Bob Dylan. Bruce Springsteen certainly as well. Yet few others, for whatever genius they may possess, can relate their own history to the history experienced by those who find that common bond, be it in a

coming of age, living through the same realities or sharing similar experiences. Ellis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters.

Although some may refer to him as a folksinger, he is more, for lack of a better word, a singular storyteller, a musician whose words reach out from inside and yet also express the feelings, thoughts and sensibilities that most people can relate to in one way or another, regardless of age or upbringing. The exhilaration of the open road. A celebration of heroes. The hope for

redemption. Descriptions of those things that are both near and dear. The sharing of love..., intimate, passionate and enduring.

Ellis is currently recording songs for his forthcoming new release The Storyteller’s Suitcase. For more details about The Storyteller’s Suitcase, please visit Ellis’ website: www.ellispaul.com.
