San Luis resident Stella Mary Aragon, 94, passed away February 9, 2018 at the Rio Grande Inn Nursing Home in La Jara with her loving family by her side. Stella was born on September 13, 1923 in Chama, Colorado, the daughter of Amarante Atencio and Aurelia Valdez Atencio. Stella was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed going to bingo, sewing, cooking for her family and friends, gardening, singing and reading her bible. She cherished the time she spent with all her family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her daughters Marie (Duman) Mondragon of Pueblo, CO; Charlotte Aragon of Montrose, CO; sons Rudy (Mary) Sanchez of Denver, CO; Jesse (Gina) Aragon of San Luis, CO; Eddie Valencia (Virginia Munoz) of San Pablo, CO; Albert Valencia of San Luis, CO; 48 grandchildren, 100 great-grandchildren, 59 great-great-grandchildren, sisters Casilda Vigil of Chama, CO; Connie Espinoza of Glendale, AZ. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents Amarante and Aurelia Atencio, her husband Edubigo Aragon, sons James Aragon, Mike Aragon, Lawrence Valencia, Richard Aragon, Pat Aragon, Andy Aragon, daughters Patricia Aragon, Rita Valencia, Theresa Valencia and Flora DeHerrera.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Centennial High School Gymnasium. Interment will follow at the Chama Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in San Luis. The care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of San Luis.
