Students compete in state science fair

The 2019 Colorado State Science Fair was held in Fort Collins April 11-13, 2019.  There were 316 projects were on display from students in grades 6 through 12, at the Lory Student Center on the Colorado State University — Fort Collins, campus. Twenty-three students from the San Luis Valley Regional Science Fair attended the state science fair. 

There were be five senior division finalists that were chosen to compete in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in May, and Sara Nehring, Monte Vista High School is one of the five students chosen to attend as a Colorado state representative. The Intel ISEF will be held in Phoenix. 

At the San Luis Valley Regional Fair, which was held Feb. 28 and March 1, 21 projects were chosen to present at the State Science Fair. There were 23 students to present and out of the 23 students at the fair, 17 of them were presented with at least one award, if not several awards. 

Grand Awards

Best of CSEF Project, Second Place, Junior Division went to Tyler Kester, Sierra Grande Jr/Sr High School, Blanca.

Third place of Senior Division went to Sara Nehring, Monte Vista High School. 

Animal Science, Junior Division Second place went to Madison Miller, Monte Vista Middle School. 

Animal Science, Senior Division, Second place went to Camille Rawinski, Monte Vista High School.

Behavioral and Social Sciences, Junior Division, First Place went to Marissa Martinez, Monte Vista Middle School.

Behavioral and Social Sciences, Senior Division, Second place went to Amanda Quintana, Monte Vista High School. 

Environmental Sciences, Senior Division, First Place went to Alyssa Rawinski, Monte Vista High School, Third Place went to Amber Michel, Monte Vista High School, and Honorable Mention went to Andres Villa, Monte Vista High School.

Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Senior Division, First Place went to Sara Nehring, Monte Vista High School.

Plant Sciences, Junior Division, First Place, went to Tyler Kester, Sierra Grande Jr/Sr High School.
