Students conduct author research

MANASSA — Manassa Elementary fourth graders were actively engaged in an Author Research project.

Students read books by the author, and then researched the life, style, and similarities and differences in the author’s books. They created boards that incorporated author’s biography, books, awards, and author’s future. Students gathered an insight into why authors use figurative language in writing and how it brings a story to life.

A few of the authors that were chosen were based on high interest of the students.  Some examples were Tim Green for Sports Realistic Fiction, Carl Hiaasen for real life experiences, Abby Klein for solving mysteries, and Jeff Kinney for family adventures.  Presentations also included author David Lubar for his creativity with puns, oxymorons, and palindromes. Lara Bergen helps students realize the importance of behaviors and consequences. Lemony Snicket’s use of allusions and imagination integrates the readers as characters into the story. Finally, the famous Gary Paulsen takes readers on real life adventures through the wilderness.
