Taos School of Music season begins with quartet

TAOS, N.M. — Called “the rock stars of classical music,” the Borromeo String Quartet, with Robe will launch Taos School of Music’s 56th season Sunday, June 17, 7:30 p.m., at Taos Community Auditorium, 145 Paseo del Pueblo Norte, with a concert of Bach’s Goldberg Variations and Franck’s String Quartet in D major. The Chamber Music Festival continues through August 5 with another Borromeo performance  July 1 and concerts by the Miro Quartet, the Brentano String Quartet, with pianists Robert McDonald and Thomas Sauer, and TSM’s 2018 Young Artists.

The Borromeo String Quartet’s performance illuminates the Taos summer scene with the brilliance customarily heard only in great concert halls. In Taos, their exquisite sound resonates in an intimate setting. As The Boston Globe says, “Most artists can go to extremes when needed; then there are those who seem to positively thrive there — Caravaggio, Almodóvar, Nirvana. The Borromeo Quartet, too.”

Kathleen Anderson, executive director of Taos School of Music, says: “We are thrilled to offer the world’s finest chamber ensembles to Taos audiences this summer. We invite you and your friends and family to enjoy these inspiring concerts. Come if you already know us; come and be amazed if you don’t.”

Tickets $25; $10 under 18 and are available online, in person before the concert, or at Taos Mudd ‘N Flood, 103A Bent La., Taos.
