Teen dies in Center house fire

CENTER– A 13-year-old girl reportedly died in a house fire here just after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

According to a Center Police Department post on Facebook, officers were dispatched to a residential fire at 4:13 p.m. where they found an unresponsive teenager in a house that was quickly filling with smoke. The girl was removed from the home by the officers who began CPR and notified Center Fire and EMS who transferred her to the hospital.

The name of the teen will not be released pending family notifications and further investigation.

Saguache County Victim’s Advocate is currently assisting the family members who were present and Center Consolidated Schools have been notified to be prepared for any emotional support needed at school when information is released on the victim.

The residence is uninhabitable due to fire and smoke damage. Other siblings of the deceased young lady are currently with family friends.

If residents would like to help, the CPD will collect gift cards for the family at Town Hall. Please contact the police department for clothing donations for the mother and two siblings.
