The library invites everyone to 'Paws for Celebration'

ALAMOSA — This holiday season, the Alamosa Public Library, the Alamosa Library Board and Moose the Reading Dog is inviting children and their parents to come to the library from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 19 for a special holiday event.

Called “Paws for Celebration,” this family and child-friendly event will give everyone a chance to learn about the various ways that families celebrate the holidays.

It will include a variety of stations that will include bookmark making, origami, coloring, and more. There will even be a station that will allow everyone to make holiday cards that will be delivered to the animal shelter so that all animals will have a special holiday this year.

The highlight of the evening, though, will be a special visit from Moose the Reading Dog.

Moose, a gentle, patient listener is well known throughout the San Luis Valley. Moose has helped many children with their reading skills by simply having them read books to him. While he enjoys meeting children of all ages, he especially loves to hear stories read to him by readers in kindergarten through third grade.

A registered therapy dog team, Moose and his owner, Dr. Laura Bruneau, an Adams State University Professor of Counselor Education, belong to Pet Partners, the nation’s largest and most prestigious nonprofit registering volunteer teams who provide animal-assisted interventions.

During this event, Moose will be available for a short reading time, as well as a photo opportunity to have your child’s picture taken with Moose.
