ALAMOSA — Ortega Middle School Theatre O is featuring “The Lion King Jr.” for its Fall 2019 production.

Under the direction of Adriana Chapa, OMS students will present a rendition of the Broadway production by Julie Taymor.

The production marks the 11th anniversary, and the 21st production for Theatre O.

Chapa said that the program “gives students a creative outlet whether it is performing or creating prop set pieces.

“It also gives them a group to belong to while building life skills, such as seeing a project through to the end and learning how to build relationships. Taking part in school activities is never wasted time and will build lifelong memories.”

A cast of 29 students will perform a variety of musical numbers, including classics such as “Hakuna Matata” along with additional numbers such as “Luau Hawaiian Treat.”

Chapa also expressed gratitude to parents and former students who returned to assist with the details of the production.

The Lion King Jr. will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday-Saturday at the OMS Theatre. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children.
