Three SLV girls golfers qualify for state

ALAMOSA – Three high school girls golfers from the San Luis Valley have qualified to compete at the Class 3A State Meet after participating in the Region 4 Tournament Monday at the Yampa Valley Golf Course in Craig.

Two are from Alamosa as Morgan Ortega tied for 12th with a 96 and Hallie Henry placed 19th with a 107.

The final state qualifier came down to Alamosa’s Kayla Medina and Monte Vista’s Ellaree Rockey as both tied for 20th with a 109. Rockey defeated Medina in a playoff to qualify for state. Medina will be the first alternate.

Also golfing for Alamosa was Taybor Wiedeman who finished 26th with a 116.

The other Monte Vista golfers were Brooke Hoffstaetter who was 24th with a 114, Allessah Archuleta who was 28th with a 120 and Katie Pacheco who tied for 29th with a 123.

Aspen won the tournament with 255, just edging second place Berthoud by one stroke. Both schools qualified their entire teams to state.

The Lady Mean Moose finished in fifth place with 312, and the Lady Pirates were seventh with 343.

Aspen’s Lenna Peterson was the medalist with a 78.

The Class 3A State Tournament will take place May 30-31 at the Aspen Golf Club.
