Town of Center receives DOLA award

VALLEY – The Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) has awarded $2,018,325 for the Tier I Energy and Mineral Impact Assistance Funds (EIAF) program. There were a total of 16 local governments that received Tier I funding from EIAF.

The awards included one in the San Luis Valley, $90,000 for the Center Town Asset Inventory. This was the amount requested.

The projects for the EIAF grant program focus primarily on community development, increasing livability and building resilient communities statewide through investments in asset-building activities. The grant funding is an ongoing effort to build communities that are socially and/or economically impacted by the development, processing, or energy conversion of minerals and mineral fuels.

“Through the EIAF funding provided, we are able to support community and economic viability across Colorado,” stated Irv Halter, Executive Director of DOLA.

Funds for the program come from the state severance tax on energy and mineral production and from a portion of the state’s share of royalties paid to the federal government for mining and drilling of minerals and mineral fuels on federally-owned land.
