ANTONITO — The South Conejos School District has announced that due to a lack of interest that Antonito will not have a football team this year.
If it sounds familiar that’s because Antonito came close to having to cancel the football season last year as well. However the Trojans would make it to the field and miss a winning season by one game picking up wins against Mountain Valley, Aguilar and Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind. What could have tilted their season to favor W’s was a two score affair that against Primero to open the season.
The roster from 2017 shows that nearly half of the team was made up of seniors. All seven seniors leaving would make for quite the gap to be filled this year, and evidently it could not be done. Head Coach Zach Dunbar expressed gratitude to the students who worked hard during the preseason.
