Trout Unlimited plans picnic, tour

CONEJOS COUNTY — Join SLV Trout Unlimited for an end-of-summer picnic at the Mogote Campground on the Conejos River (13 miles west of Antonito on CO 17) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 24.

The chapter will provide food and nonalcoholic beverages. Bring your own beer/wine if you wish.

If you would like to camp overnight, please make your own campsite reservations (see https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/riogrande/recarea/?recid=29568) and bring your own food for breakfast and lunch the next day.

To ensure we have enough food and for the chapter to plan appropriately, please RSVP to Mark Seaton ([email protected]) or Marty Jones ([email protected]) by Tuesday afternoon, August 21.

The next day, August 25, chapter members will tour the Upper Meadows area of the Conejos River (below Platoro Reservoir) as a site for future SLV TU habitat improvement projects. Meet at the Mogote Campground at 9 a.m. to arrange transportation. Please RSVP for this day also.

The September SLV TU meeting will be held on September 25 at 7 p.m. in the SLV Health Education & Conference Center, Alamosa.

Chris Johnson, founder and owner of Living Waters Fly Fishing Shop, will give a presentation on Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout (RGCT). Chris has been an ardent supporter and friend of RGCT, producing an outstanding short film “Unspoken”, that illustrates what it means to pursue and conserve RGCT. You can see the film by visiting the Living Waters website (http://livingwatersflyfishing.com/). Join us that evening for an outstanding presentation and meet a dynamic and dedicated fisherman/conservationist!
