TSJC graduation is Friday

ALAMOSA — More than 100 graduates will walk in Trinidad State’s 23rd Valley Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 12 at 6 p.m.  The public event will happen at Plachy Hall on the campus of Adams State University.

Trinidad State will continue its tradition of honoring graduates from past decades as well as top graduates from this year’s class. College President Dr. Carmen Simone will preside over the ceremonies, which she views as a celebration of accomplishments and hope for the future.

Speaking at the ceremony will be Angie Henderson, who began her journey at Trinidad State in 2013 with a machining class, but quickly realized she didn’t like the machines. She returned full time in the fall of 2014 to work towards her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Addiction Counseling and Associate of Arts Degree. Her journey has been extremely difficult. Over the past three years she has overcome breast cancer, raised a son who will soon graduate from Sanford High School, found herself homeless, worked extra jobs and participated in many campus activities. She will continue her education at Adams State University, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Kyle Shisler is the honored graduate in the Career and Technical Education side of the college. In addition to a certificate in Massage Therapy, Kyle will receive an Associate Degree in General Studies. After graduation Kyle plans to establish a business in the San Luis Valley. Eventually he plans to move to the Denver-Metro area. Kyle has been involved in Student Government for two years and also worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for the past six and a half years.

Four graduates will be honored for perfect grades. They are Ryan Daugherty, Tanner Kingery, Lourdes Fleming and Cheryl Martinez.

A reception will follow the graduation ceremonies.
