Valley Gardening: Gardening with Greg

Another great week has gone by, so fast, so fast! Maybe it’s because I have so much to do, so much I want to do that the hours and days go by so fast.

Fall is definitely in the air. I don’t know what the temperature was this morning, but it was pretty weird being able to see my breath. Can the freeze be too far away—who knows?

I have worked with more than a couple of folks doing their community service through the probation department. Two have been great. Two have been a struggle, but I’m still trying to make a difference in their lives. And now I have Greg and how thrilled I am to have him. He only has 48 hours to work, but he has been a joy. He actually has common sense and just knows what to do—no matter what task I give him. He has helped in Mom’s Garden, and at Society Hall and also helped on the corners of Eighth and State—we are getting our LODA neighborhood spruced up for the Early Iron Car Show that is ONLY two weeks away!

If you own a business or property on Main St. or Sixth or anywhere I guess, please help get Alamosa spruced up for all the visitors coming to our town. Businesses—it would be great if you swept your sidewalks, even hosed them down, and swept the curbs too. Wouldn’t it be great to have the weeds pulled by some establishments? It really does make such a difference!

I know that Greg and I will be working in Mom’s Garden on Sunday morning. I have been spreading the soil conditioner, and rototilling small areas at a time. Greg will be helping with the moving of some rocks and getting 2-3 trees planted. With ongoing support from the Jack and Marilyn Oberrick family I will also be planting more shrubs. This garden is already looking so fabulous—mind you, I didn’t say perfect—that is almost a joy to do some weeding in there.

Before I forget…more about HEMP CBD. I had a great supper with Monte Robertson, owner of SLV Hemp Company on Thursday. He’s the guy that has so much knowledge about what hemp can do. I just have to sit back and listen and learn and ask questions, and listen some more.

Monte is working on a CBD Buyer Rules and Knowledge sheet so that you are getting what you need and not getting taken in by the “snake oil” salesperson. I’m thinking that you will see hemp products absolutely everywhere in the coming year, and it is up to you to be educated. I will do my best to help you.

One of the first things to do is let your doctor know that you are adding CBD products to your routine.  CBD can make your existing synthetic medications work better. Most folks coming to see what I have available at the Green Spot are wanting to get off pills entirely. That would be my goal for my customers. Not always doable.

Monte says to start at a low dose and pay attention to your body and health. Take ownership and know what your body is telling you. Titrate (step) up after a few days to a week until you get to the level where you are seeing a desired result. Take or apply consistently. It is so typical for a person to start something and then quit once you are feeling better—I’m speaking from firsthand knowledge here. Use or take on a regular basis. Every once in a while, take a small break so that you don’t create a resistance to the CBD.

I have already seen so many products that folks are trying to sell. And often claims are made that just aren’t true. Know the people selling, processing and growing your CBD products. I’m pretty proud of having done that with the companies I represent. And now, I am realizing how much there is to say about hemp, and I’ve run out of room. I will be hosting artist Peyton Sanchez with his beautiful Brailled cards, and also featuring the “Art of Hemp” on September 8th.  Owners of three different San Luis Valley hemp companies will be on hand to answer your questions.

If you need yellow roses, we will be digging big-time next week. So thankful for Greg!
