Valley teams to run at State Meet

ALAMOSA — Rocky Ford was the scene for the 2A Region 3 Cross Country meet. As teams Sargent’s boys earned a first place finish and their girls placed fifth. Centauri was also able to place in the top five down both sides of the gender line. The Centauri boys took second and the girls finished fourth.

According to the CHSAA Bulletin on Cross Country, in 2A regionals the top five qualifying teams will advance to state, meaning that both Centauri and Sargent’s boys and girls will be competing at the Norris-Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs this weekend Oct. 27.

Sargent’s boys took first overall at regionals with a combined team score of 31 from their top three runners. Riley Kenison finished first on the team and sixth overall with a time of 17:28.95. The Centauri boys finished second as a team led by Bo Cormier who finished seventh overall with a time of 17:45.01.

As for the girls Centauri finished fourth as a team in Rocky Ford. Lizzy Valentine took seventh overall with a time of 20:57.81. Sargent’s girls claimed the final ticket to Colorado Springs with a fifth place team finish. Kendra Sears finished with a time of 20:23.43 to claim sixth place overall and first on the Farmers.

Sargent and Centauri make three teams including Alamosa from the San Luis Valley to compete for a state title this weekend. Del Norte will also be in attendance with an individual qualifier, sophomore Logan Cestone. 

Saturday the action will begin with the 3A boys who are scheduled for a 9 a.m. start, the 3A girls are scheduled for a 10:20 a.m. gun. 2A will begin with the girls at 12:20 p.m, the 2A boys will run at 1:40 p.m.
