Vandals spoil Ice Fest sculptures

ALAMOSA -- In spite of warning signs around the Rio Frio Ice Fest ice sculptures, three of them may have been vandalized between last Thursday night and Wednesday night of this week, according to Jes Jolly with Alamosa Parks and Recreation, organizers of the event.

With a quick trip to Denver and back on Friday, Jolly was able to replace the Adams 100 logo for the sculpture sponsored by Adams State University.

Two additional sculptures were found toppled Thursday morning. Jolly said some damage was most likely caused by the unseasonably warm and windy weather on Wednesday, but some damage was clearly human-made.

“This senseless destruction saddens us, as the sculptures are works of art for the community to enjoy,” Jolly said.
