Violet L. Moeller

Longtime Antonito resident Violet Lawrencia Moeller (Sutak), 98 and 9 months, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.  She was adored and attended to by her loving family.

Violet was born March 11, 1923 at the coal mining camp in Aguilar, Colorado, the eldest of two daughters and one son of John Sutak and Josephine Dussart Sutak.

At a young age, her family moved to the San Luis Valley and farmed just south of Alamosa.  Her younger years were filled with farm life which produced all the necessities for subsistence- milking cows, gardening, canning, and working in the fields.  As a child, Violet worked alongside her father John on the family ranch and did everything the men would do.  She was his ranch hand.  Following graduation from Star High School, she attended Beauty School in Denver then worked in Alamosa as a Beautician.  This is where she met her husband to be, Ernest Oscar Moeller. They were married on January 4, 1948 at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Antonito.  They enjoyed over 58 years together until his death on April 1, 2006.

Violet supported her husband Ernest on the ranch and was a homemaker.  She had a very good work ethic that followed through everything she did in life.  She shuttled their children around to their school sporting activities and made sure everything was getting taken care of, both at home and on the ranch.  Above all, Violet adored her family.

She was a wonderful cook and seamstress and was also a talented and creative woman thriving as she had fun.  She was amazing at any type of needle work and has created numerous works.  Most every family member and many friends have one of her famous afghans.  Violet delighted in social time with her friends and was active in bowling league for a time.  She also liked to play Bridge and was in Bridge Club.  Violet was characterized by her warm, compassionate and fun loving generous heart.

Violet was active in her church.  She also volunteered for over 20 years as the Secretary for Farm Bureau, and was given an award for her dedicated service.  She was also a member of the SLV Cow Bells, Colorado Cattlemen’s Association, and Colorado Sheep Growers Association.

She is survived by her children Dennis (Myrna) Moeller of Antonito, Christine (Tim) Haslett of Alamosa, Wayne (Tamara) Moeller of Folsom, CA, Joanne (Kevin) Moon of Langhorne, PA; as well as fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

Violet is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sons Paul Moeller, and an infant boy, her sister Dorothy Sutak and her brother John Sutak, Jr.
