Walter Espinoza

Longtime Alamosa resident Jose “Walter” V. Espinoza, 83, went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2024. Walter was born Dec. 16, 1940, in Espinoza, Colo., the son of Juan E. and Solidea Romero Espinoza.

After graduating from La Jara High School, he honorably served in the United States Navy from August of 1958 to December of 1962 and the United Stated Army from October of 1963 to October of 1966.

He married Laura Maria Montoya on July 10, 1968, in Conejos, Colo., where they resided in Alamosa for 56 years.

Walter worked for AmeriGas for 38 years as a service technician and was well known throughout the San Luis Valley. He often gave his time and skills to anyone in need of assistance with their propane appliances and their heating needs.

He was a devoted Catholic and enjoyed attending church and was involved in many church activities. A member American Legion Post No. 113 of Alamosa, World War II, Korean, Vietnam Last Squad of Alamosa.

Walter loved the time he spent with his wife, family, grandchildren and the many friends he made through his years.

He is survived by his four children, Orlie Espinoza of Alamosa, Jeff Espinoza of Fountain, Mario Espinoza of Lone Tree, and Aaron Espinoza of Alamosa; four grandchildren, D’mitri Espinoza, Alysa Espinoza, Elijah Espinoza and Montana Pearce; sisters Lucy (George) Martinez of Romeo, Marbella (John) Trujillo of Denver, Virginia (Dave) Stuber of Alamosa, and Irene Espinoza of Aurora; sisters-in-law Virginia Espinoza of Leadville and Rosalie Espinoza of Romeo; and brother Otto (Elva) Espinosa of Layton, Utah. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Solidea Espinoza; his beloved wife Laura Espinoza; and two brothers, Enios Espinoza and Lionel Espinoza.

Cremation was chosen and a Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. Memorial Mass to follow at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Inurnment will follow at the Alamosa Cemetery with full military honors.
