Wildlife artist on display in ARTrium

Joe Horvath, a wildlife artist, is seen standing next to Afternoon Stroll, one of his many paintings on display in the ARTrium, located on the second floor of the SLV Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa. The ARTrium is open to the public, and welcomes everyone to Horvath’s art reception that will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 5.

ALAMOSA — From August through November, the “ARTrium,” located on the second floor of SLV Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, will be displaying the wildlife portraits of Joe Horvath.

Horvath, whose art exhibit is entitled Yellow Hawk Visions: Images from Nature, did his latest show using oils, and described some of his process.

“I most often paint the larger animals – deer, elk, big-horn sheep and goats – focusing on their interaction with their natural habitats,” he explained. “Recently, I have started to pay more attention to the personalities of smaller animals, too. When I encounter an animal, I make eye contact and we evaluate each other. I try to show that mutual perception in my work. In my art, I see animals emerge as individuals, and my paintings as portraiture.”

There will be an artist reception for Horvath held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the “ARTrium” on Thursday, Sept. 5. The public is invited to attend, and Horvath will be present to greet people and answer questions about his art. The San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center is located at 106 Blanca Ave. in Alamosa.
