Wildwood hosts The SLV Jazz Club

DEL NORTE — The SLV Jazz Club, formerly known as Bebop Anonymous, will perform an intimate concert at Wildwood Sounds on Friday, January 19th. The Club will be a trio for this show, featuring Matt Hurst on drums, Loren Buss playing basses, and Allan Stuart on keyboards and vocals. All three play with the San Luis Valley Big Band.

The Club is very improvisational in performance. It’s safe to say that no song is ever quite the same twice — the band brings the nuance of a specific crowd or venue into it’s interpretation, being “in the moment” with both the music and the audience. Most of the repertoire is vintage jazz and blues, with progressive instrumentals, originals, and choice country and pop tunes mixed in.

Matt is a Valley native with a music degree from Adams State and a lot of experience playing jazz and rock. He brings taste, great chops, and careful listening to the ensemble.

Loren, also an ASU grad, is known fondly as “Sky King” for his many years as pilot and crop duster. He has been a bassist forever, covering many styles and kinds of ensembles.

Allan has been a performer since the early 80’s, and has played from Oregon to Russia. He has made 17 original albums for three different record companies, and played every style of western music. His current day job is as a recording composer for the film and TV industry. He also has been known to tune a piano occasionally.

The Jazz Club has played a lot in the Valley over the last couple of years and loves bringing fresh jazz to the folks of the San Luis. Come listen, sing along, dance, and share the musical joy.

Cost is $20. Call 719-657-4757. Showtime is 7 p.m. This is a sweets and snacks potluck. Bring a favorite healthy snack to share, and as always coffee and tea are on the house. Wildwood Sounds is located at 850 Grande Ave. in Del Norte, one half block east of the only light in Del Norte on Hwy 160.
