World War II exhibit in Del Norte

Liberator pilot Donald G. Richardson

Rio Grande County Museum will host an opening for the World War II exhibit on Saturday, July 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Art work done by Del Norte Middle School student, Joseph Trujillo, will be featured along with uniforms worn by Donald Richardson, Dr. V. V. Anderson and Army Nurse, Irene Kernen.  The story of the German Prisoners of War, who were located in Monte Vista, is also told in the exhibit.

The stories of the heroes who did not return to their loved ones are told in a notebook written by the museum staff.  Anyone with stories of their own who would like to them added to the collection can do so by contacting the Rio Grande County Museum.  These stories and memories are encouraged and will be added to the permanent collections of the museum. Every story is important and needs to be documented.
